Cashback sites are things that I hate, because they are famous at mostly giving you 2% cashback – and 5% if you’re lucky. So it’s nice to know that Microsoft tried to shake up the cashback space and do something nice with it. Right now the Bing Cashback scheme has shut down, so let’s take a look into why that is.
Bing Cashback got shut down because of lack of adoption, that Microsoft had hoped for. Microsoft has a habit of shutting down new services that don’t get the adoption they hope for. So it’s nice that despite being the underdog in Search, that they are persuing that.
Bing Cashback is now running under a new model. You buy something online as you usually do, and return to the Bing Cashback site, to find out if your previous purchases are eligble for cashback. I like the way Cashback is tied into help Bing’ search engine. The signup form says this.
Each store you buy from will send us your purchase information after you complete your purchase. We’ll use this info to make sure you get your cashback. We might also use it to personalize your shopping experience, including advertising and content relevant to your previous purchases.
The cashback program is only open for people in the US.
